Just a little concrete playlot
Three blocks west of Logan Square.
But there's a reason it's called "Unity"
They've got a close-knit community there.
Chorus:
Meet me at Unity Playlot.
Same place we always go.
Meet me at Unity Playlot,
And make sure everyone knows.
Make sure everyone knows.
Most of this land was a parking lot
For selling drugs and abandoning cars.
The ground 'neath the slides was so hard,
And the kids that were falling were ours.
So the people called a meeting,
And the Parks' boss came out with his plan.
But when he arrived he was skinned alive,
And back to his limo he ran.
So the Park District softened the playlot.
And the bushes made it look real nice.
But when they finally dug up that parking lot,
You know they un-paved paradise!
Then the people voted for a basketball court.
The alderman opposed their plan.
The Park District turned its back on the children,
And back to the alleys they ran.
The alderman tried to build benches
To prevent the basketball play.
But when she sent in her construction crew
Ninety-six neighbors sat blocking their way.
Then came the sprinkler, staff and a fieldhouse,
More land to handle the crowds.
And when they replaced that alderman with Rey Colon,
Basketballs rained down from the clouds.
