About us: what we do and why we do it.

Team Long Haul: Dan Collison and Elizabeth Meister

Long Haul is committed to honor the aural ... by crafting stories that resonate in your ears, roll around in your head, that transport you somewhere new through accent, character or place.

Ours are stories meant to be HEARD.

Our voices rarely, if ever, are heard in our stories.  We rely on the people we work with to speak.  And the results document stories of everyday lives, stories of people and communities in transition, and stories of ordinary people accomplishing extraordinary things.

When we choose a story, we’re really in it for the long haul: we spend months, sometimes years, getting to know our characters. And more and more we're working with some of the nation's best independent musicians and photographers, people like songwriters Sufjan Stevens and Will Oldham, and photographer Dawoud Bey.  People who share our curiosity and desire to honor all the timbre and beauty around us.

Long Haul Productions is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 founded by longtime producer Dan Collison, and run by Dan and his radio partner (and wife), Elizabeth Meister. Collison and Meister, both United States Artists Donnelley Fellows, have co-produced fifty radio documentaries for NPR over the last ten years, and count the duPont-Columbia baton, the Third Coast International Audio Festival Gold Award, and multiple Sigma Delta Chi "Best Documentary" awards among their many honors.
